Karen has more than 20 years of experience in government agency management, organizational change management and development, quality improvement, legislative advocacy, and community collaboration and resource development. Addressing social determinants of health was a critical component of this work as she engaged stakeholders from all areas, including education, public health, housing, employment, transportation and non-profit organizations to develop a comprehensive implementation plan for a more stable community for all residents. She has educated public and private sector partners on resource development and assisted with developing plans for sustainable communities. Karen is proficient in assessing state and county level organizational needs, implementing process and practice improvement changes and managing the effects of change within large organizations. Karen is an excellent leadership coach and team builder, with successes in bringing teams together to collaboratively and efficiently deliver services. Karen has served as a Department of Social Services Director for the past 10 years, previously serving in leadership positions at child welfare agencies in Maryland, Washington, DC and Charlotte, NC. In addition to her experience leading human service organizations, Karen’s educational accomplishments in journalism, social work, and strategic organizational leadership contribute to her qualifications.
