Derek Jones is a director within the Energy, Sustainability, and Infrastructure segment where he leads the transportation consulting group. He has more than 14 years of experience in the transportation and energy sectors.
Currently, Derek manages market assessment, adoption forecasting, load research, business case analysis, regulatory strategy, and program implementation. His multi-disciplinary experience includes a deep knowledge of transportation and distributed energy resource (DER) market ecosystems, US regulatory and policy environments, and program design and implementation.
Prior to Guidehouse, Derek worked for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E), where he managed regulatory compliance reporting estimating load impacts and adoption forecasts for solar photovoltaic and electric vehicle (EV) technologies. He co-led California investor-owned utilities (IOU) reporting activities providing load impacts from the IOU’s respective EV rate schedules, EV penetration forecasts, and cost tracking for distribution and service upgrades. He also served as the statewide research planning lead for zero net energy (ZNE) and codes and standards, and as the PG&E lead for California Solar Initiative (CSI) research. In these roles, he led multi-year collaborations among staff from the California IOUs, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the California Energy Commission (CEC), and public stakeholders to produce and implement strategic research roadmaps.
Prior to PG&E, he worked for Mitsubishi Corporation’s government relations office in Washington DC where he monitored and advised the trading company’s worldwide leadership on US and global auto industry market, policy, and technology developments.
