Hoan Wagner is a Director in Guidehouse’s Banking, Insurance & Capital Markets practice. He specializes in advancing solutions and services for financial services, with emphasis on addressing evolving regulatory, compliance, and mission-critical business imperatives that include fintech’s, neobanks, and non-bank financial institutions. Most recently, focus has been on the most relevant challenges, including anticipating and future proofing - enterprise risk management, compliance management systems (CMS), operational risk frameworks, sustainability in regulatory & business change management, and enhancing consumer protection pillars (e.g. UDAAP, FCRA, Fair Lending, Complaints and Issue management etc.); while applying sound thinking in the adoption of enabling technology, automation, and data & analytics. This is ever so important in aligning an un-even playing field across risk, regulatory and compliance with financial services, partnerships with fintechs, and consumer interests.
Hoan has lead initiatives specializing in strategy development, profit improvement, process assessment and redesign, systems evaluation and selection, data management and reporting. He has a strong background the full life cycle of project delivery and considerable global project and program management experience with transformational and infrastructure projects and software implementations.
Prior to joining Guidehouse, Hoan was a Managing Director at KPMG LLP where he led solutions and services primarily focused on Operational Risk and Control, Regulatory and Compliance, and Consumer Protection areas of law. He was responsible for global transformations required by marketplace to meet the needs for managing enterprise risk, process and change events faced by today’s global organizations with complex legal entities, worldwide footprint, multi-faceted businesses, and products. His clients include top five U.S. based global financial services institutions, leading international travel services and credit card company, top 3 capital markets firms, leading managed payments companies and fintechs.
Within industry, Hoan led consumer lending operations and retail banking for Discover Financial Services. He was selected to lead this start-up organization by setting strategic direction and implementing new processes and program initiatives with P&L responsibilities and span of control for employees in both corporate and field operation locations. He managed day-to-day operations, including corporate functions, underwriting, customer service, security and loss-mitigation and fraud, for three lines of business: Banking, Personal and Student Loans.
