Patient support programs (PSPs) are a critical bridge between pharmaceutical manufacturers, providers, payers, and patients. Through provider and patient education, affordability initiatives, digital health platforms, and other important services, PSPs ensure that therapies get to patients who need them and are taken properly and consistently.

In a recent Guidehouse survey, pharmaceutical executives said that these programs are playing a critical role in helping patients afford their medication and have a positive experience. But leaders also cautioned that the industry needs to invest in improving the effectiveness of PSPs, especially those that serve at-risk populations and help providers with an often-complicated reimbursement process.
