How Countries Are Using Hydrogen for the Energy Transition

Germany wants to import more green energy to meet climate goals, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) wants to economically diversify, moving away from crude oil exports as decarbonization efforts grow.

In a report commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, through the Emirati-German Energy Partnership, Guidehouse and the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce found that both countries believe green hydrogen can be a solution to their energy needs.

The report examined joint hydrogen-related activities between the two countries to provide an overview on the topic and examine future cooperation potential. The study summarizes and investigates:

• Hydrogen production potentials and costs
• Hydrogen trade, transport, and storage
• Hydrogen applications

The authors found that a close bilateral cooperation on hydrogen-related topics between Germany and the UAE could accelerate the deployment of hydrogen.
