Guidehouse investigated the potential opportunities for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) production for a large European oil company active in aviation fuels.
Global greenhouse gas emissions from aviation represent more than 2% of global emissions today, but are forecast to grow significantly in the period to 2050. Currently, the only viable way to decarbonize the sector is through the deployment of SAF. Many leading international airlines, notable in North America and Europe, are already showing interest in testing and deploying SAF.
Guidehouse investigated several dimensions of the SAF market including the regulatory framework and market environment, certified technologies and key market players, as well as potentials for a diverse range of biomass feedstocks. The findings were used to build a model of future demand of SAF in the company’s home market and develop a strategic roadmap for the company to enter the market.
