Ransomware attacks have sadly become commonplace and increasingly brazen. Huge enterprise businesses, gas pipelines, universities, and even cities have been crippled by ransomware and forced to pay huge ransoms.
In Authority Magazine, Guidehouse talks with David Leichner, CMO at Cybellum, providing recent insights into cyber attacks, why industrial systems are vulnerable and what you can do to limit the severity of these attacks.
What makes critical industrial systems such an attractive target for bad actors?
Because of the historical lack of IT direct management of these platforms, they aren’t designed for security enablement, and lack protections afforded modern platforms, like the ability to embed software that monitors for security incidents and malicious software.
Who has to be most concerned about cyber attacks? Is it primarily businesses or even private individuals?
Both, as the individual can compromise our corporate networks. A digital risk management company was recently compromised by the direct targeting of an individual within the company as an example.
