Utilities Focus on Innovation and New Technologies in 2022

In a discussion with Public Utilities Fortnightly, Guidehouse considers what the new year has in store for energy provider Eversource and the energy industry as a whole

As the new year takes shape, the energy and utilities industry contemplates the challenges and opportunities the year brings in the face of climate change.

In the February issue of Public Utilities Fortnightly (PUF), Michelle Fay, partner at Guidehouse, joined PUF’s Steve Mitnick in interviewing Werner Schweiger, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Eversource. The discussion focused on the challenges facing the energy industry and Eversource’s vision to tackle them in 2022 and beyond.

Eversource is New England's largest energy provider, serving more than 4.3 million electric and natural gas customers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. In the PUF interview, Fay discussed issues such as renewables, grid resiliency, and energy storage. Schweiger outlined the company’s upcoming initiatives, such as construction of its first offshore wind project and completing a storage solution in Cape Cod.

Fay also asked what success for Eversource might look like at the end of 2022. Schweiger noted that finding more innovative ways to serve customers, whether it's offshore wind, electrification, resiliency, or storm response, will be key to making big strides in the industry.
