Dan Bradley Reflects on Being Named Top 25 Consultant

After 20 years in the business, Bradley shares with Consulting magazine what excites him about his job

Consulting magazine recently announced its annual list of Top 25 Consultants, which identifies the most influential consultants in the industry. This year, Dan Bradley, managing director in Guidehouse’s Energy, Sustainability, and Infrastructure segment, was recognized for Excellence in Energy.

In an article for Consulting magazine, Bradley shared the personal experiences that have shaped his consulting career.

Bradley said he first got a taste of consulting in college while learning about proposal writing at a small engineering consulting firm. However, it was during a later job at a different company where he watched members of a management consulting firm work on interesting projects with senior leadership and decided that he wanted to pursue consulting as a career.

“I decided that was the life for me,” Bradley recounted. “Within a few months, I had enrolled in business school, and I’ve never looked back.”

Now, Bradley has over 20 years of consulting experience, 15 of those at Guidehouse, where he helps clients position themselves at the forefront of the energy transformation. Bradley said he draws on a creative, collaborative working style to solve the most pressing challenges, which he recently demonstrated for the State of New York, where he led a team to create a state-wide innovation platform for the electric utility sector. Six months after launch, Bradley said the project had the right strategies in place, but that he wasn’t getting the expected outcomes. Out of adversity, Bradley’s team pioneered the concept of an Innovation Sprint, which produced the desired results.

“This time, we found that we were able to effectively deliver innovation at scale to the industry, and the initiative was recognized as the 2019 Project of the Year by a leading industry publication,” Bradley said.

It is working on projects like this, the entrepreneurial aspects of the career, and interacting with different clients and work cultures that Bradley most enjoys in his consulting career.

“As a consultant who focuses on clients in the energy sector, I am endlessly motivated by working with clients to solve problems that have a real impact on the quality of life of people,” says Bradley.
