How COVID-19 is Impacting Utilities

In an interview with Zpryme, Guidehouse discusses the short and long-term effects of the coronavirus on utilities

The coronavirus quickly reshaped the way people around the world live and work. This included in the energy industry, which is experiencing rapid change in short and long-term operations and planning.

In an interview with Zpryme, Guidehouse Partner Dan Bradley discussed how COVID-19 is impacting utilities, distributed energy resources (DER) opportunities, and future resiliency planning and strategies.

Bradley highlighted three key areas within utilities that are impacted by the outbreak:

  • Finance: Handling concerns over unpaid electric bills due to mass unemployment across the country
  • Culture: Managing a company culture built off in-person networks that rapidly moved to a remote workforce
  • The grid: Dealing with a grid that quickly shifted from commercial to residential

"This is a unique and unprecedented experience. One thing that never lacks in a time like this is leadership and idea," Bradley said.
