In the August issue of Public Utilities Fortnightly, Dan Hahn and Michelle Fay, partners at Guidehouse, discussed some key issues industry players are facing and topics generating discussions among leaders at the EEI Annual Conference, which took place in June 2022. From cybersecurity to decarbonization, utilities are facing a lot of important issues simultaneously and are working through these changing priorities.
"The investment question is a big one, trying to balance what you can do to futureproof and still maintain the existing grid," noted Fay. "What a utility may come up with for a plan now that’s for 2030, two years from now may look very different."
The interview also focused on the importance of affordability and resilience in energy transition, the business opportunities for utilities behind the SEC's ruling on emission disclosures, as well as Guidehouse's sustainability work spanning a variety of industries and capabilities.
"We have a team that understands energy, a team that understands state and local business, government business. Working with that client is a powerful combination of sustainability and energy expertise, and local government expertise," explained Hahn.
