Gas for Climate 2050

Challenge

To meet the Paris Agreement on climate change, the EU and other large global economies need to reduce energy system emissions to net zero by 2050.  The focus for the 2050 energy system is often on renewable electricity, with little attention for the long-term benefits of renewable gas. Until recently, the gas sector did not have a clear vision for the role of gas in a 2050 decarbonized energy system.

Solution

Against this backdrop, Guidehouse supports the Gas for Climate consortium, a group of seven major European gas TSOs and two biogas associations. Guidehouse performs energy system scenario analysis, and coordinates the developments of plans to scale up renewable gas supply in the EU. Guidehouse also supports the consortium in disseminating study results among policy makers.
